  1. I didn't know much in the way of how many immigrants butI did fairly well on the questionabut who, wy and where.

  2. I was so surprised that a lot of people think that undocumented immigrants are taking away American's jobs, but according to the question in the quiz the answer is false. The undocumented immigrants do not take work away from Americans. The other questions that I knew was true that 83% immigrants speak their native language. Now, I know why most of our students take a long time to learn English.

  3. I did not do very well with this quiz, only got 1 answer correct. My other answers were close. I am not good with numbers and percentages, I should probably become better informed as I dig deeper into my ESOL endorsement.

  4. I was surprised to learn that most of the 2002 refugees were from the former Soviet Union. Since it was such a huge and diverse place, I am interested to look up from which of the SSR's they actually came. I was also ignorant about the amount of money immigrants send home. I think I got about 4 wrong, so I have some reading to do.

  5. I did not do well at all on the quiz. I was surprised and saddened to see that the average day labor worker in California only makes $8,500 a year. And, out of that, they must send 31% of it back to their families. They are here working so hard making very little.

    1. Lauren, I knew they made a ridiculous amount that was unrealistic to live on. I think it is sad because they do work hard and make that pitful amount of money.

  6. My score on the quiz was 50% because I thought there were less day workers and immigants in the United States. I was surprised to learn that these immigrants enter the United States legally on a Visa and then let their Visas expire but continue to stay in the United States.

  7. I made an 88 missing 3. I was surprised about the less than 1 percent of the world's immigrants are in the United States. It seems there are so much more.

  8. I was surprised by the amount of money the average immigrant sends home to their families. If they can send so much when they make so little, I could do more to give to others.

  10. Well, as an immigrant myself, I am very reluctant to say how little of the stats I knew. I overstated the amount of remittance. I thought it was 40%. This is interesting.

  11. I missed two questions: I was surprised of the percentage of undocumented immigrants cross the southern border of the United States. The second question I missed was "Where did most of the refugees who were resettled in the United State come from in 2002?" It is sad that the adoptions from Russia are now blocked for US parents. From this question, the statistic shows the refugees are seeking a better life and these children are being denied that opportunity because of politics.

  12. I answered 50% of the questions correctly due to good guessing not based upon prior knowledge! The question that stood out the most to me was the one asking about where the immigrants settle. I understand why they settled in Texas, California, New York and New Jersey. Illinois surprised me. The other states are Border States with the exception of New York and New Jersey. When I think of New York, I think of “Chinatown” in New York City and since New Jersey borders New York, I can understand why immigrants settle there. I am curious as to why Illinois also has a high percent of immigrants.

    1. I likewise was surprised to learn that a large number of immigrants settle in Illinois. I would have thought GA would have squeezed in among the six. I wonder what jobs they have up there - the whole state is bankrupted!

  13. I got only 50% of the questions correct and like others, I must admit several of those correct responses was due to guessing. I am very uninformed about immigration statistics. I was very surprised not to see Georgia listed as one of the states where immigrants settle because based on populations I regularly have contact with, the majority are immigrants.

  14. I missed most of the questions. I guess pretty well at some though. I think we get the impression that there are more immigrants in our country than really are from the media. Also, we see our community as an example of what is happening in the country at large which apparently is not true.

  15. Well I was way off on about half of the questions. Maybe I am influenced by the media. I thought it was interesting to learn that most immigrants settle in just 6 states. I thought Georgia would have been at least in the top five. I guess my answer was influenced by the surge in immigration in the Atlanta metro area. Interesting data.

  16. I got a whopping 5 questions right! I got the true/false correct and then the last couple. After reading the explanations from the first few questions, I could think more realistically towards the end because I had more true knowledge rather than just opinions.

  17. I did not do so well on this quiz. I agree with Joseph in that the media definitly influences the way people think and feel. I was surprised to find out what little money immigrants make a year and that they send a third of it back to their family.

  18. Yea, I got 3 right! I was way wrong. All the numbers, percentages and such, were all a lot lower than I thought they would be. I realized I don't know much about the number of immigrants in our country.

  19. I missed most of the questions. I learned a lot.It was sad to learn that those who live in CA who make $8,500 and send $2,6000 home which only $5900 left over.
