Culture Nov 2012- Feb 2013: Assignment #1: Listen to the following article and write a 2-3 sentence response. Also, comment on one other person's response. http://www.npr.org/blogs/...
I liked this story and last year I saw much of what was described in my classroom. When I took over an existing class in November I had to set up a new culture for my classroom. I tried to create an environment where it was safe to fail but my students were very resistant. If they weren't successful at once they were embarrassed or ready to quit.
However, by the end of the year, after many conversations most were willing to keep working and they had learned that by trying and explaining what they had done that they often found and fixed their errors themselves.

Assignment #3
Your last post is related to your upcoming case study paper. This is the one where you will interview the parent of a student about their culture. Tell me what your game plan is. Have you picked a student? Contacted the parents about the interview? What part of this assignment do you think will be the hardest? What part do you think will be the easiest? I just want to get you thinking about this paper coming up. Give me at least 3 sentences and then respond to someone else's post for a total of 2 posts for this assignment.
Assignment #2
There are now 3 videos posted to this blog. Please watch and comment on at least 2 videos. This post has no sentence limit. It can be a brief comment like "that was really funny".
